Chapter 49: The Fall of Nkosana

The news of the childs birth spread through the kraal like wildfire, reaching even the darkest corners where whispers of the past still lingered. Joy swept through the people, a new beginning declared by the ancestors themselves. But in one lonely hut, untouched by the celebrations, the past withered into silence. Nkosana, once the mighty king, lay motionless upon his worn mat. His eyes, clouded with years of regret and suffering, stared at nothing. He had heard the news—Zwelibanzis son had been born. An heir. A sign of the ancestorsblessing. A sign that he, Nkosana, had been truly forsaken. His body, frail and withered from the punishment the spirits had placed upon him, had endured much. But his heart… his heart could endure no more. He had lost everything—his throne, his honor, and worst of all, his children. They had been taken from him as justice for the crimes he had committed in his greed for power. Now, Zwelibanzi had a son, a future. And Nkosana had only the emptiness of his past. The servants found him at dawn, his body still, his face frozen in a final expression of silent horror. His hands clutched at his chest as if trying to hold onto something that had long since slipped away. The elders were summoned at once. There were no wails of mourning, no grand farewells. The decision was swift—he would be buried immediately, without ceremony, without honor. A king who had stolen his crown, a man who had been cast out by the ancestors, deserved no more. Before midday, the grave had been dug in the outskirts of the kraal, away from the royal tombs. The few who gathered watched in silence as the earth swallowed him, as if the land itself wished to forget his name. By sunset, Nkosana was nothing more than a memory. The kingdom, reborn in the light of a new era, moved forward. And the past, along with the fallen king, was laid to rest.
