Chapter 35: Golden Cage

Thando’s mind raced as the woman’s words echoed in her head. She was trapped. The reality of her situation began to sink in, each second pulling her deeper into a nightmare she couldn’t escape. The woman in Chanel stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. With a swift motion, she grabbed Thando’s wrist, pulling her toward a waiting black SUV parked outside the hotel. The driver, a silent man in dark sunglasses, opened the door without a word. Thando hesitated, her instincts screaming for her to run, but she knew she had no choice. The woman shoved her into the car with an unsettling force.

The ride was long and silent. Thando stared out the window, the towering buildings of Dubai blurring as they drove farther away from the luxury of the Burj Al Arab. Her stomach churned as panic gripped her. She had no idea where she was being taken, but one thing was certain it wasn’t a good place. The SUV stopped in front of a high, gated villa, the type that screamed wealth and isolation. The woman opened the door and gestured for Thando to get out.

Woman: “ Welcome to your new home, I hope you enjoy your stay."

she said coldly, her voice void of any emotion. Thando stepped out, her legs trembling. The villa was surrounded by high walls, no sign of life or movement. It felt like a gilded cage, a place where no one could hear her scream.

The woman led Thando inside, where she was immediately met by a group of women, all sitting in silence, their eyes hollow and empty.

They didn’t speak, didn’t acknowledge Thando as she was ushered past them into a room at the back of the villa.

The room was stark, furnished only with a single bed, a small table, and a chair. The woman gestured for Thando to sit, and then turned to leave.

Woman: “You’ll stay here until we’re ready for you.”

she said before closing the door behind her. Thando sank onto the bed, her head spinning. What was happening? How had her life turned into this nightmare? She had been on a dream honeymoon with a man she thought she loved, and now she was locked away in a foreign villa, with no way to escape.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a door opening. A woman entered the room, her eyes kind but filled with sorrow. She was dressed in a simple white dress, her face pale and drawn. She moved with an air of quiet dignity, as if she had accepted her fate long ago.

Sophia: “My name is Sofia, I know what you’re going through. I’ve been here for... a long time.”

she said softly, sitting down beside Thando. Thando looked at her, fear and confusion filling her chest.

Thando: “What is this place? Why are we here?”

Sofia looked down, her hands trembling slightly.

Sophia: “You’re here because you’re valuable. You were sold... just like me. Just like the others. This is where women like us come when they’re sold. It’s the beginning of the end.”

Thando recoiled, horrified by the revelation. She had been sold. She had been traded as property.

Thando: “No… this can’t be real.”

Thando whispered, her voice shaking. Sofia met her gaze, her eyes filled with sympathy.

Sophia: “It’s real. But you’re not alone. We’re all in this together. And maybe... maybe we can find a way out.”

The words hung in the air, offering a tiny thread of hope in a place that had none.
