Chapter 33: Zanele and Lunga’s Wedding
The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the small garden where Zanele and Lunga’s wedding was taking place. The space was simple but beautiful, with strings of fairy lights twinkling overhead and bouquets of wildflowers adorning the chairs. Zanele stood in the small dressing room, her hands trembling as she adjusted her veil. Her dress was simple but elegant, a flowing white gown that made her feel like a queen. “You look stunning,” her best friend, Thandi, said, her eyes filled with tears. Zanele smiled, her heart swelling with emotion. “Thank you. I can’t believe this is really happening.”
Outside, Lunga stood at the altar, his heart racing as he waited for Zanele to appear. He was dressed in a crisp black suit, his hands clasped nervously in front of him. “Relax, man,” his best friend, Sipho, said, clapping him on the shoulder. “You’re about to marry the love of your life.” Lunga nodded, though his mind was racing. He couldn’t believe how far they had come from the struggles of their early days to this moment, standing here, ready to start the rest of their lives together.
The music began to play, and the guests turned to watch as Zanele walked down the aisle. She looked breathtaking, her dress shimmering in the sunlight, her eyes filled with love as they met Lunga’s. When she reached the altar, her father kissed her cheek and placed her hand in Lunga’s. “Take care of my daughter,” he said, his voice filled with emotion. Lunga nodded, his heart swelling with love. “I will. Always.”
The ceremony was simple but heartfelt, filled with vows of love, commitment, and support. When the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, the crowd erupted in applause, and Lunga pulled Zanele into a kiss that left them both breathless. As they walked back down the aisle, hand in hand, Zanele’s heart was full. She couldn’t believe how much her life had changed since she had met Lunga. He had shown her what it meant to love and be loved, and she was grateful for every moment they had shared.
The reception was a celebration of their love, filled with laughter, dancing, and heartfelt toasts. Zanele and Lunga sat at the head table, their hands intertwined as they listened to their friends and family share stories about their journey. When it was Lunga’s turn to speak, he stood up, his glass in hand. “Zanele, you’ve changed my life in ways I never thought possible,” he said, his voice steady but filled with emotion. “You’ve shown me what it means to love and be loved, and I’m so grateful to have you by my side. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” Zanele’s eyes filled with tears as she stood up, her glass in hand. “Lunga, you’ve made me believe in love again. You’ve shown me that it’s okay to be vulnerable, to take risks, and to trust in something bigger than myself. I love you, and I’m so excited for our future together. “The crowd erupted in applause as Zanele and Lunga clinked their glasses and shared a kiss.
Later that night, as they danced under the stars, Lunga pulled Zanele close, his arms wrapped around her. “I love you, Mrs. Mthembu,” he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. Zanele smiled, her heart swelling with joy. “I love you too, Mr. Mthembu.”
As they swayed to the music, surrounded by the people they loved, Zanele and Lunga knew one thing for certain: their love was just the beginning of something extraordinary.
